Velodromes

The former Pan American Velodrome from Winnipeg canada, now resides in Albuquerque. That's right the velodrome that was originally built for the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, was purchased it for about an eighth of the original $500,000 cost and shipped to Albuquerque. What a bargain!

So what?

Then again while waiting for a home the last several years, the dismantled wood planks have been sitting, exposed to the elements, on an Albuquerque lot. As a result, the track will now require a $20,000 to $100,000 resurface job.

The 2004 go 'round for "The Southwest Velodrome" called for a new 1500-seat stadium designed to accommodate track racing as well as a BMX track in the infield of (or near by) the velodrome.

So where are we now? Good question. The BMX track is built ... that makes it Roadrunner BMX (Las Cruces), The new and improved Duke City BMX (Albuquerque), Badlands BMX (Las Lunas), Aztec Riverside BMX (Aztec). Maybe, Veloport can get it built ...
